Skilled Swing Bed and Rehab Services

LMC Focuses on Skilled Swing Bed Services

So, what is a Skilled Swing Bed?  Medicare permits certain small rural hospitals to use its beds as needed, either for acute care or skilled care, hence the term “Swing Bed,” as physicians may “swing” patients from one level of care to another while staying in the same facility. Be aware that Swing Bed programs differ from one facility to another.

If you find yourself needing time to recover from a surgery, illness or injury, a Skilled Swing Bed program allows you to recover in a hospital setting versus a nursing home. In the hospital, you have easy access to skilled nursing care, rehab, and therapy programs. The goal of a Swing Bed program is to assist you or your loved one with your recovery and become as independent as possible before discharge. The Liberty Medical Center Swing Bed program aims to provide this high quality care close to home.

The staff and medical team at Liberty Medical Center in Chester, MT are committed to providing quality skilled nursing care post-surgery or hospitalization.  As often in rural areas, our patients receive surgical interventions a long distance from home.  LMC has the ability to help these patients rehabilitate close to loved ones in a quality caring environment.

LMC offers uniquely structured team-based medical care.  Patients are rounded on daily and providers meet on a daily basis with care teams to discuss each patient’s individual needs and goals.  This continuity of care enables our patients to recover and flourish knowing our team is behind them every step of the way.  Moreover, our nurse to patient ratio is 1:3; enabling our expert nursing staff to better care for our patients in a safe environment.  In addition, LMC’s physical therapy department works closely with team members to ensure patients are getting the best therapy possible on a consistent basis.

Our skilled nursing suites offer large, newly remodeled rooms complete with private bathrooms and comfortable space for family. No visiting hour restrictions and a home-like environment make the transition from surgery to home a positive and enriching experience.

If you or a loved one is undergoing surgery or other treatments and will need recovery time in a hospital, please contact LMC’s Skilled Swing Bed program at 406-759-6982 and talk to Shirley Morkrid, CNO for more information.  LMC is committed to providing quality compassionate care close to home for all our community members across the region.
